Hi Everyone,
This blog post will discuss the differences between multi-media and multimodality and their methods being used in schools. Sometimes these methods can be distracting to ones learning but some say it enhances learning.

  1. hi all,
Multimedia is characterised as a form of content, sound, video graphic and animation. it can be conveyed to a user digitally or electronically. Multimodality is an inter-disciplinary approach that comprehends correspondence and representation to be more than about dialect. It has been produced over the previous decade to efficiently address tremendously talked about inquiries regarding changes in the public eye, for example in connection to new media and advancements. With the progression of Technology, we can see that the world that we live in is changing rapidly and the field of education are one of the field that are developing to be vastly improved. We can see that the utilization of multimedia in education has grown a considerable measure today and is hoping to expend further later on. There are many advantages in applying multimedia and multimodality elements in education.

    1. Hello everyone.
I think using Multimedia and multimodality in education is a brilliant way of teaching because it gives students an opportunity to express their knowledge.by using it, it allows them to share their knowledge and show it to others. Giving students the chance to create their ideas instead of following ideas that have already been created by others.

    2. Aseelah I agree that the world is changing very fast and it is important to keep up with it especially when it comes to education. According to Kennewell and Beauchamp today through the use of multimedia and multimodality making educational documents is faster, holds more storage, gives a range of materials and automation for editing photos and videos on an iPad. Lastly it gives the ability to respond to others many times without being fed up(Kennewell and Beauchamp, 2007).

    3. Yes Jarna, presenting information and ideas using different modes can help you keep things done quicker. Multimodal resources engages students not only that but it also stimulates the brain (Beauchamp, 2016).

    4. Hello Jarna,

To continue from your point. Multimedia is encouraging new teachings methods i.e project based multimedia learning. For example, multimedia such as, animation, video, graphic can provide teachers new method of teaching that will challenge students to form new skills, knowledge in creative subjects such as, performance, planning, designing etc. Multimedia such as, animation, text, (Simkins, Simkins, and Cole, 2002).

  2. Multimedia and multimodality is an advantage to education. It empowers pupils to speak to data utilizing distinct medias. This evident to be useful when pupils need to do their project. By using multimedia and multimodality components, they can introduce their multimedia in a considerably more inventive way. In addition, multimedia and multi-modality approach additionally give adaptability of where and when would they be able to learn. This is because by utilising multimedia like sound and video, pupils can record or listen to previous topics that have been recorded or make a discussion with each other. Multimedia and multimodality approach additionally helps pupils to build up a higher request thinking abilities. By utilizing multimedia components, pupils utilize their own thoughts and creativity to consolidate the components of media something new. Moreover, multimedia approaches are also more captivating in contrast with the traditional one. With multimedia, interactive learning can be done with a live video. Inquires and feedback to keep the pupils intrigued and help improve their abilities.

  3. Hi Aseelah,
Yes I absolutely agree, Multi-modal is all about exploring the use of digital. Multimodal is a powerful engaging tool for students. It can be argued multimodal literacies are really effective when it comes to learning in schools. It’s a significant way involving pupils to contribute. The activities teachers create compose modes it’s just a transition to different learning styles and makes education a lot more fun (Miller et al, 2012).

    1. Hello Radiya,
I do agree with Multimodality being a strong tool for modern education. Multimodality offers pedagogy the opportunity to provide different viewpoints, translation thus encouraging them to exercise different understanding of the object. With multimodality teachers have access to wide range of resources offering different styles of delivering the lessons and engaging the pupils, (Stein, 2007).

  4. Hi all,
Multi-media keeps growing it has become a machine learning (Maragos et al, 2008). Especially deaf children language acquisition is usually through the use of multimodal. This is a different learning strategy as they are collecting information from different modalities. Usually there are two different types of modality auditory and visual. For deaf children it sets out data bases of picture and videos where there is an interpreter using finger signs. The use of multi-modality should be considered in an educational setting for deaf people as these strategies will be useful to their learning they can co-operate more in the tasks they have been given (Coninx, 1993).

  5. Hello All,

I agree with you statement. Multimeadia and Multimodality has made significant impact on the way students learn and education is presented. Multimedia has transformed education in many way, changing the roles of both teachers and students. Due to the influence of multimedia education is no longer “sage on the stage” where teachers are considered the source of information and student the “passive learners”. Teachers are seen as “guide on the side” as students are able to take more responsibility for their education learning g hence the use of multimedia. Morden education has found ways to carter to this new model of learning by providing new learning spaces, fostering more interaction and interpersonal learning while through technology. Multimedia has cater to teaching allowing teachers to have to access instructional materials and new ways to provide fresh learning with the classrooms, Purdue (2015).

    1. Hi Falis
Multimedia and multimodality has made an impact on the way education is presented. Multimedia components can be used for various things. With the assistance of a PC software, for example, Adobe Photoshop/ Illustrator/ Adobe Flash you can make and merge different multimedia components to make an outstanding project. However, you need to know every function of those multimedia components to apply it to education. examples of multimedia used in education are text, audio, graphic, animation and video. Multimedia influenced a lot of advantages to make learning intriguing. With the assistance of its components, it can summon innovativeness in pupils and educators so they can apply to learn or teach. Multimedia has made learning much easier.

  6. Hello all,

I have noticed we have only looked at multimedia and Multimodality from a positive perspective thus, I would like to ask if you think if multimedia and Multimodality is hindering modern education?

  7. Hi Everyone,
According to a research it has been concluded that people learn from word and pictures and not words alone. The good thing about multi-media and multi-modality is that it adapts to different learning styles (Smith, 2010). Studies have also shown that it increases motivation. However, it a machine learning that generates information automatically without showing the reliability and validity of the source (Kim et al., 2011). Also the disadvantage to multi-media is that you need to consider the cost before setting up and the equipment you will need to use such as the hardware and software (Smith, 2010).

    1. Using multimedia is great way of teaching however it does come with some disadvantages. Firstly, in terms of finance I think it can be very expensive to provide technological material to students. Schools will have to invest a lot of money it making multimedia and multimodality a way of teaching because it requires of lot of technical equipment.
According to Selwyn, Potter and Cranmer ICT can effect learning in a positive way but there is no evidence that it has that big of a result. ‘Although there is much anecdotal evidence and case study evidence from classrooms around the world that ICT can be used to support and enhance learning, there is very little rigorous evidence of the educational impact of ICT use on a wide spread scale’ (Selwyn, Potter and Cranmer 2010). Another why in think this is because there are still many disadvantages to it. Using a lot of images and videos could actually slow down the process of learning. Allowing students to complete their learning on their own at their own pace could run the risk of difficulties in managing the classroom because of the mix up of different student learning through stages. Also it takes away the focus of the actual learning for students who are not used to it, therefore they will take more like learning to understand how to use such apps etc. and as a result time is lost.
